Institute for the Development of Entrepreneurship Advancement (IDEA) is a nonprofit with a mission to empower low and middle income workers to improve their well-being through entrepreneurship training and support. In order to accomplish this mission, IDEA:
Innovative Social Enterprise
IDEA’s innovative social enterprise, called Venture ESOP Ecosystems (VEE), will empower equitable entrepreneurship among low and middle income workers by empowering investors to scale employee ownership through better ROI and business ecosystems.
VEE will be a holding company that 1) creates parent companies that are 50% VEE/50% ESOP-owned and controlled and 2) provides them with hybrid equity/debt financing to acquire and merge target companies. VEE will create parent companies in the same industry, and these parent companies will acquire and merge the same types of businesses within that industry (e.g. plumbing parent company acquires and merges plumbing companies and electrical parent company acquires electrician companies).
By using hybrid equity/debt financing for acquisitions, VEE will be able to 1) better scale the reach and frequency of employee ownership creation and 2) provide parent companies with the cash necessary to innovate, scale, and compete. By creating mutually-supporting parent companies within the same industry and merging acquisitions with those parent companies, VEE will create the horizontal and vertical ecosystems necessary for its employee-owned firms to innovate, scale, and compete.
